Roaring Twenties Christmas Party

How YEP Brought The 1920s To Life For A 21st Century Party

Ever since the movie The Great Gatsby came out in 2013, we at YEP  have been waiting for a special client to come to us to do a party based around the Roaring Twenties concept. The time finally came and we could not be anymore excited to be designing and styling a party using elements from the 1920s and some Gatsby influence.

The conceptualisation aspect of for us started the old fashion way - research research research - to find out what the 1920s was all about. The emphasis on having fun and spending money has led to the 1920s being called the Roaring Twenties

Once the research aspect was underway, the next step in our conceptualisation process was to see what design ideas of the 1920s could be brought forward to the 21st Century.

Inspiration Behind Event Design

To add a focal point to the event, we built a featured corner in order to make it the main focus of the room to set the tone of the event. We wanted the featured corner to be eye catching and bold to really grab the attention of the guests when they first walked into the room. Hence, the big grand staircase as the backdrop and the extensive amount of props  such as cigars, feather boas, moustaches, and blow up guns for the guests to use to get into character.

As event stylist, our design conceptualisation had a strong focus on the whole “hush-hush” underground vibes to reflect the 1920s era since the Roaring Twenties was a time where many people defied Prohibition, indulged in new styles of dancing and dressing, and rejected many traditions. We added red and yellow lights to create a prohibition ambiance and 1920s effect, as the event space had white walls and needed something extra to jazz it up.

The yellow and red lighting also highlighted the red roses, which gave the event a touch of glitz and glamour. Seeing as the spirit of the Roaring Twenties was marked by a general feeling of novelty associated with modernity, we decided to have different centerpieces for each cocktail table, but each decor element chosen all reflected or resembled the 1920s from the antique clock to the postcard of LA and NYC during 1920s.

Food & Drinks

We also wanted to give a  big shout out to Pure Indulgence, the catering team working this event with us. Not only were they amazing to work with, but they designed their food to match the 1920s design concept. On the menu there was devilled eggs, smoked salmon, burger sliders and more, and the food did taste as good as it looks! (yes, YEP did a bit of a taste test as we couldn’t have ourselves!)

Drinks wise, the Shake and Stir team produced bespoke cocktails such as The Draper, Vanilla Sky and Rhubby Fizz, which worked well with the 1920s design concept. For instance, Vanilla Sky was served in a tea cup and saucer and the piece de resistance, was the smoking cinnamon stick. If you are wondering whether the cocktail taste as good as it looks, we can reassure that it does!

Overall, this Roaring Twenties party was such a fun party to design and style, and we are looking forward to the next one. If you liked this themed party, check out our Safari Jungle party.
