Sweet And Savoury Food Inspiration For Your Table

Dessert tables (which are also known as dessert bars) are a great idea, however, most people think sweet treats like candy, cakes, and cupcakes when they hear the term dessert table.  If you are more of a savoury tooth person why not have a cheese table instead. Something along the lines of a tiered wheeled ‘cheese cake’  served alongside crackers, sun dried tomatoes, olives, and chutney.

In Perfect Wedding Magazine, they mention that a host should impress their guests with a different variety of cheeses paired with exotic names such as, Fontina, Manchego, Cotija Cheese, Caerphilly, and others. Do you not just think “oooh la la” hearing these cheese names?

When styling your dessert table, it is always good to have a center piece to give the table an aesthetically pleasing focal point. However, do not forget to add little pick-me-ups to the table. Candies or sweets, cupcakes, macaroons or chocolate treats scattered around the dessert table is always a good idea.

When styling a cheese board, the same principles are applicable since all you need to do is add pick-me-ups. Such as, grapes, chutney and pickle pots scattered whimsically around the table.

Do Something Fun

One of the weddings we worked on with Moments, our associate, Kelvin and Janet requested a savoury table to include popcorn and nacho chips, and an Ice Cream bar for their dessert table. The overall theme for this wedding was rustic combined with the ‘gastronomy of love’ as both Kelvin and Janet are foodies.

They wanted to make sure the favourite snakes were included on the dessert table. To provide an exceptional dining experience for your guests, your dessert table needs good presentation. For the Ice Cream Bar, we wrote the different flavours available on chalkboard so guests could just help themselves.

Have A Bespoke Dessert Bar

Being that the summer season is upon us, it is always good to get inspired by the colours and flavours that is associated with summer. For example, pastel colours like pink and yellow flowers can be incorporated within the décor for the dessert table. Another good dessert table styling tip is to use macaroons as they can be used multiple ways - not only do they taste yummy as desserts but they also look good as decor pieces and you can have them in your wedding and/or party colours.

Depending on what your wedding and/or party theme is, getting customised cupcakes and cookies can really bring out the bright summer colours as well as give a fresh decor twist to your dessert table. Last but not least, if you run out of time to plan and need something quick, using fresh fruits and strategically placing them on the serving plate can add that little bit of oomph the dessert table needed.

Our Top 3 Tips For Getting A Dessert Bar Right:

  • Strawberries are in season now, so good old fashion strawberries and cream should never go amiss with your guests. Unless you like your strawberries dipped in chocolate sauce.

  • Make sure the dessert bar is placed in a cool area, as there is nothing worse than having your chocolate desserts melting in your guest hands. Or your cheese may starts smelling even funkier then it already is.

  • Even if your only dessert is just your wedding cake, try adding a little décor around the table to give it a bit of va-va voom. For instance, photo frames and word initials are a good personal touch to the dessert table.
