– Why we didn’t hire a wedding planner but wished we had…
Sure, it’s a ball to ooh and aah over cake designs. But there’s nothing enjoyable about researching mini-buses for guest transport or making seating charts. There isn’t much joy in reviewing vendor contracts or keeping track of payments, either.
What’s the difference between wedding planning and wedding styling?
A wedding planner’s responsibilities are to manage and deal with the overall wedding project while keeping in mind the wedding budget given. Their responsibilities could include planning or suggesting possible wedding ideas for clients, managing the wedding budget. Together with, scheduling logistics, and recommending a list of preferred vendors, vendor liaison, and many more tasks. A wedding planner’s duties and responsibilities are never ending. After all, they are in charge of the making sure everything to do with the wedding is sorted and runs smoothly on the wedding day. (a good planner is worth their weight in gold!!)
Wedding styling contributes to the visual and emotional experience you will encounter at a wedding. What we mean by this is that your five senses (sight, smell, sound, taste and touch) will play key roles in your experience. Just as you use one of your five senses every moment of every day. For example food you taste, the wedding decor you see or the emotions you experience during the wedding ceremony. Wedding styling could include conceptualising, designing and implementing the wedding. Such as your bouquet, table centerpiece, dessert and drinks bar, wedding ceremony aisle, arch or backdrop many more.
A memorable wedding to us is a wedding that runs smoothly logistical wise yet has a positive appeal to all of your five senses.
#YEPtip: Keep in mind that when making your decision about who is right for you and your wedding dreams. You need to be able to connect with your wedding decorators style. So don’t be afraid to ask questions and share your desires and opinions. It’s the only way they will really get to know who you are and achieve the style you’re wanting.
Differences between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator?
Think of your wedding planner as your new best friend when it comes to planning your wedding – a wedding planner is the person you look for after you get engaged and after you figure out a general budget. Once you hire a wedding planner, you give them a very broad (or very detailed) vision of your wedding and they can then help you pick out everything from a wedding venue to wedding florists, caterer, furniture rentals, invitations, and more as most wedding planners already have a black book of the best vendors to call as needed.
Hiring a wedding planner does not mean you are not involved in planning your own wedding as depending on your time and budget constraints, you can be as involved as you want to be. Wedding planners can help you not only negotiate vendors’ contracts, create detailed timelines and budget but will also keep you on top of your wedding budget.
A wedding coordinator on the other hand is also referred to as a day-of coordinator. They are engaged 4 – 6 weeks before your wedding date to help out with last minute wedding admin (ie creating itineraries for vendors and the bridal party) as well as be the go-to person on your wedding day for any wedding vendors’ queries. A wedding coordinator’s role is mainly behind the scenes in making sure that your wedding day goes as smoothly as possible so you won’t have to worry about anything. A wedding coordinator works on a much shorter time frame than a wedding planner so they typically do not get involved in the earlier planning phases, source vendors or keep track of your wedding budget.
Why should you hire a wedding planner?
One of the main reasons people hire wedding planners is because they possess the skills, information and contacts needed to plan a wedding. Planning and organising a wedding can be very stressful as you will have to find the right venue that fits all your requirements.
On average, a wedding takes 10 months to plan. That time does not include everyday life, work and anything else that may be time consuming in your world. Wedding planners are here to take that burden of your hand and effectively and efficiently plan your wedding for you. Instead of you having to meet with 10 different wedding vendors. Hiring a wedding planner means you meet with just one vendor – your wedding planner. You brief your planner on your wedding vision, budget, and ideas and it’s their job to ensure that it happens accordingly.
#YEPtip: It takes a lot of trust to put your wedding dreams in the hands of someone else. Especially when the design aspect is not tangible, but rather visionary and something that has to be seen to be experienced. However, if you have faith and trust that your planner will do the job that you’ve hired them for, they will make it magical.
At YEP, we love learning the intricacies of our couples’ personality and can design a bespoke wedding to reflect our couple’s style. Planning a wedding is a very intimate process. So, at the end of your wedding planning journey with YEP, your wedding dreams be brought to life. More importantly, you will have also gained some new friends – us!!
How to have a bespoke wedding reflecting your own style and personality?
Therefore it is important to know how both your styles can be combined to reflect your wedding. However, if the couple is unsure of what their style would be, wedding planners can make suggestions. Furthermore, to pick the couples brains to see what they have in common and what they enjoy doing together. This will help towards developing a couple’s style. Wedding planners can usually tell what the couple style could be by asking a few detailed questions about the couple and their lifestyle.
#YEPtip: Just be more aware of your surroundings as you go through everyday life. For example, if you are walking down the street and pass a shop display or floral arrangement that inspires. Then do take a picture of it so that you are able to share that idea/concept with your significant other and wedding vendors.
